Star Ocean First Departure R is heading to PS4 and Switch

A remake of a remake of the original. What?

A remake of the original Star Ocean game, First Departure R, is heading to PlayStation 4 and Switch, according to the game’s official Twitter account.

Star Ocean: First Departure is a remake of the original Star Ocean (1996) and was released on the PSP, back in 2008. Now that game is being remade as Star Ocean: First Departure R (note the additional ‘R’) and is set to arrive on PlayStation 4 and Switch. Still with me? Good.

While this will be the first Star Ocean title to arrive on Switch, the PlayStation 4 is no stranger to the series. Both Til the End of Time and The Last Hope remasters made their way onto the console in 2017.

We have no release date yet but ‘further updates’ are expected to follow.
