Here’s where to find the Al Bhed Primers in Final Fantasy X.

With Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remastered coming to Xbox One and Switch this week, we thought it would be a good time to dust off our Final Fantasy knowledge and pop it into a handy guide or two.

Al Bhed Primers are key items found throughout Spira in Final Fantasy X and will translate the Al Bhed language so you can read messages and understand conversations between characters and NPCs that would otherwise be undecipherable.

While they’re not needed to complete the game – collecting them is completely optional – if you do decide you want to pick them up, there are a few that can be missed past a certain point in the game. Luckily, this guide will give you the location of each one.

I’ve tried to keep spoilers to a minimum but be aware that there be some present in this guide.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. I
Missable: No.
Translates: A (English) = Y (Al Bhed)
Location: This one is found on the deck of the Al Bhed salvage ship where you first meet Rikku. If you miss it, you can pick it up later in the game in the Bikanel Island, in the north-east part of The Oasis.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. II
Missable: No.
Translates: B (English) = P (Al Bhed)
Location: You can find the second Primer in the Crusader’s Lodge in Besaid Village.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. III
Missable: No.
Translates: C (English) = L (Al Bhed)
Location: This one is found in the Power Room on the S.S. Liki (the ship that takes you from Besaid to Kilika. If you miss it, you can pick it up later from Bikanel Island in the tent where you find Wakka.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. IV
Missable: No.
Translates: D (English) = T (Al Bhed)
Location: The fourth Al Bhed Primer is found in the Tavern in Kilika Port.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. V
Missable: No.
Translates: E (English) = A (Al Bhed)
Location: This one is found on the S.S. Winno (the ship that runs between Kilika and Luca). You can find the Primer in the Bridge. If you miss it, you can pick it up later on Bikanel Island where you find Kimahri.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. VI
Missable: No.
Translates: F (English) = V (Al Bhed)
Location: You can find this one in the Luca Stadium in Basement B. It’s on the floor on the left side of the hallway.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. VII
Missable: No.
Translates: G (English) = K (Al Bhed)
Location: This one is found in the Reception area of Luca Theater. It’s easily spotted on the floor at the bottom of the steps.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. VIII
Missable: No.
Translates: H (English) = R (Al Bhed)
Location: Mi’ihen Highroad. You’ll be given this one by Rinn.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. IX
Missable: No.
Translates: I (English) = E (Al Bhed)
Location: This one is also found on the Mi’ihen Highroad. Head to Newroad, North and it’s on the ground on the path.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. X
Missable: No.
Translates: J (English) = Z (Al Bhed)
Location: You can find the tenth Primer on the Mushroom Rock Road, very close to the lift that took you up to the Command Center (and the area where you got to use Seymour in a boss fight). The primer is found to the right of the small platform and you can access it by heading to the left and following a short winding path. The easiest way to get here later in the game is to travel to either Mi’ihen HIghroad or Djose Highroad and make your way on foot to this spot.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XI
Missable: No.
Translates: K (English) = G (Al Bhed)
Location: The next one is on Djose Highroad. It’s behind one of the rocky pillars on the right, on the long stretch when you first enter the area.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XII
Missable: No.
Translates: L (English) = M (Al Bhed)
Location: The twelfth Primer is found on the North Wharf of the Moonflow. It’s at the top of the ramp on the same screen as the Shoopuf.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XIII
Missable: No.
Translates: M (English) = S (Al Bhed)
Location: This one is found in a house in Guadosalam. From the Save Sphere where you teleport in, head towards Seymour’s house, then go up the slope to the left to find the door. It’s on the floor at the back.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XIV
Missable: No.
Translates: N (English) = H (Al Bhed)
Location: You can find this one at the Thunder Plains Agency. Once Yuna leaves, speak to everybody in the Agency. Then speak to Rin and reply with “Okay” when given the option. If you miss it you can get it later at Sanubia Desert East, just after you reunite with Rikku.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XV
Missable: No.
Translates: O (English) = U (Al Bhed)
Location: This one is found in the Macalania Woods on the Lake Road. It’s found on the first screen south of where the Agency is (where you teleport in) and can be found on the ground down a partially hidden path on the right-hand side.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XVI
Missable: No.
Translates: P (English) = B (Al Bhed)
Location: You can find this Primer at the front of the Agency, just to the left.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XVII
Missable: No.
Translates: Q (English) = X (Al Bhed)
Location: This one is found in the Sanubia Desert Central area. It’s in the the area full of ruined structures on the left, enclosed by an old ruin in the north-east corner.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XVIII
Missable: No.
Translates: R (English) = N (Al Bhed)
Location: This one is also found in the Sanubia Desert Central area. It’s found to the north of the Save Sphere on the ground very close to a signpost saying ‘This way to Home.’

The next four Al Bhed Primers are missable. You’ll need to collect each once you reach this specific part of the story.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XIX
Missable: YES.
Translates: S (English) = C (Al Bhed)
Location: You cannot return to this area later in the game so this one is very missable. It’s located in the Al Bhed Home and can be found next to a burning wreck on the paved area outside the entrance, over to the left.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XX
Missable: YES.
Translates: T (English) = D (Al Bhed)
Location: You cannot return to this area later in the game so this one is very missable. This one is found in the Living Quarters, inside the Al Bhed Home. After Rikku starts leading you to the Summoner’s Sanctum and you’ve gone down some steps, head back up them and search for a door on the left. The Primer is at the back of this room.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XXI
Missable: YES.
Translates: U (English) = I (Al Bhed)
Location: You cannot return to this area later in the game so this one is very missable. Once you reach the Save Sphere at the bottom of some steps, don’t go through the door next to it. Head back to the intersection and go right. The primer should be on the floor in the main corridor.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XXII
Missable: YES.
Translates: V (English) = J (Al Bhed)
Location: You cannot return to this area later in the game so this one is very missable. Right after Yuna’s wedding, enter Bevelle Temple and head down. This Primer is found on the floor at the bottom of the stairs, just before the Save Sphere.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XXIII
Missable: No.
Translates: W (English) = F (Al Bhed)
Location: This one is located in the north-western corner of the Calm Lands.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XXIV
Missable: No.
Translates: X (English) = Q (Al Bhed)
Location: You’ll need a chocobo to grab this one. Head to Remiem Temple (entrance is South-eastern corner of the Calm Lands and only accessible by chocobo) and find the Primer on the ground outside on the left side of the temple.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XXV
Missable: No.
Translates: Y (English) = O (Al Bhed)
Location: This one is found in the Cavern of the Stolen Faith, where you obtain the Aeon, Yojimbo. It’s in the short passage to the left of the Save Sphere.

Al Bhed Primer Vol. XXVI
Missable: No.
Translates: Z (English) = W (Al Bhed)
Location: The last Primer is found in the Omega Ruins. You’ll find a room containing four chests. The Primer is found on the ground to the right of a torch at the back.
