There’s no fear of “danger, frustration or death.”
Devolver Digital and Nomada Studio have announced that Gris, an “evocative narrative experience” will arrive on PC and Switch on December 13.
Gris is Nomada Studio’s debut game, and the trailer below shows off the delicate art style of the environments as well as the dangers that Gris will seemingly face on her journey. We see some platforming sequences in the trailer, though the game promises that it’s free of “danger, frustration or death,” instead opting for light puzzles and optional skill-based challenges.
Despite the light-hearted simplicity of the game’s look – or perhaps, in spite of it – the story appears to be quite sobering, taking a girl’s (Gris’) misery and following her as she grows emotionally stronger.
Gris is a hopeful young girl lost in her own world, dealing with a painful experience in her life. Her journey through sorrow is manifested in her dress, which grants new abilities to better navigate her faded reality. As the story unfolds, Gris will grow emotionally and see her world in a different way, revealing new paths to explore using her new abilities.
As a fan of games such as Journey and AER: Memories of Old, I’m excited to see how this game will play. It certainly gets a resounding ten out of ten for first impressions – let’s hope it’s as magical as it looks!
Gris is set for release on PC and Switch on December 13.
