Warcraft 3: Reforged is a remake “in the truest sense.”
Blizzard has just announced that Warcraft 3: Reforged, a remaster of the hugely popular RTS, will be arriving next year. You can check out the trailer, above.
Warcraft 3: Reforged will see the original Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos and the expansion, The Frozen Throne, rebuilt from scratch, with updated in-game cutscenes. Coming to Battle.net, the game will be treated to “a suite of contemporary social and matchmaking features” and a complete visual overhaul. The World Editor has also been upgraded with new tools and features and if you have existing custom maps, they will be supported in Warcraft 3: Reforged, too.
If you didn’t play the original, you’ll be treated to storylines that set the foundations for the world of Azeroth that World of Warcraft players have come to know and love. From the origins of Orgrimmar to the rise of the Lich King, you’ll get to play through various campaigns from the viewpoints of pivotal factions: the orcs, the humans, Night Elves and the Undead.

‘Warcraft III is monumentally important to us here at Blizzard, and its influence is evident in everything we’ve done since,’ said J. Allen Brack, President of Blizzard Entertainment. ‘A project like Warcraft III: Reforged isn’t something we undertake lightly, partly because of this legacy, but more importantly, because we know what it means to our players.’
Warcraft 3: Reforged is available for pre-order now. The standard edition will set you back £25, while the Spoils of War Edition will cost £35, though for the extra money, you get unique skins for four of the game’s hero units, as well as a bunch of in-game bonuses for other Blizzard games. You can check out the details here.
No release date has been confirmed but Warcraft 3: Reforged is set for release sometime next year.
