Out now on the Nintendo eShop.
Sega has announced that the first two games for Sega Ages, Sonic the Hedgehog and Lightening Force: Quest for the Darkstar, are now available on Switch via the Nintendo eShop. You can check out the launch trailer, above.
The two titles are part of Sega Ages, a series of classic Sega titles that are slowly being brought to the Nintendo Switch. The games are being worked on by M2, the Japanese developer responsible for the SEGA 3D Classics series on the Nintendo 3DS.
Sega Ages was first seen back in 1996 on the Sega Saturn, and saw a handful of enhanced arcade ports released. It is now being rebooted, with the similar idea of bringing a number of ‘faithful ports’ from the Sega Master System and Genesis – as well as arcade games – to the Switch. The aim is to enable the current generation to enjoy some of Sega’s classic titles.
Upcoming titles for Sega Ages include Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Out Run, Space Harrier, Columns II and Thunder Force AC, and Phantasy Star.
As part of SEGA’s broader support for retro games, including upcoming releases like SEGA Genesis Classics for Nintendo Switch, coming this winter, SEGA AGES is a series of classic, high-quality ports of beloved SEGA games developed by M2.
Sonic the Hedgehog and Lightening Force: Quest for the Darkstar are both available separately on the Nintendo eShop and will set you back £8 each.
