Pokémon Go players on iOS will get an enhanced augmented reality (AR) experience with the new update.
The new AR feature will be exclusively available to iOS 11, which includes the iPhone 6 and newer models. Building on the core AR gameplay of Pokémon Go, the update will use Apple’s ARKit framework to improve the visuals and dynamics of catching Pokémon while you’re out and about.
After activating the new AR+ feature in encounter mode, individual Pokémon will be more accurately positioned based on their surroundings and environment thanks to the six degrees of freedom the technology provides. By utilising ARKit’s advanced 3D AR scaling, a Pokémon’s size will be more accurately based on the world around them, changing in perspective and size as Trainers move closer or further away.
Additionally, players will now be able to receive a new ‘capture bonus’ by getting closer to the Pokémon; the Expert Handler bonus will provide more XP and Stardust for trainers with a bit more patience.
Pokémon Go is available now on iOS and Android.
