Final Fantasy XIV has really been going at quite a clip this past couple of years. Now, at their second US Fan Festival in Las Vegas, we’ve just received news of a second expansion for the renewed MMO.
Stormblood follows on from the previous expansion, Heavensward, in not only delivering a double-barreled title but also in unveiling an entirely new area for adventurers to explore. Where Heavensward had its focus set on the realm of Ishgard, Stormblood will instead focus on Ala Mhigo, a land that has been occupied by the Garlean Empire. Stormblood’s story will focus on the liberation of Ala Mhigo from the empire, and the Warrior of Light’s efforts to achieve this.
Stormblood is said to include a full game’s worth of content, much like what was contained in Heavensward. It’ll also raise the level cap to 70. New alliance and high-level raids have been promised, as well as some more primals to bash down to pieces.
I believe this was hinted at before, but Stormblood will also see Final Fantasy XIV ditch the PS3 in favour of focussing on the PS4 and PC. It’s a bit of an inevitability I believe, as more people upgrade their consoles to the current generation. During the Fan Fest, it was mentioned that a free upgrade campaign will be in place to allow adventurers to continue playing FFXIV on their PS4s.
Are you excited about Stormblood? I certainly am!
