The Odd Gentlemen and Sierra have released a new video documenting the artistic process that is going into making their upcoming title, King’s Quest. Here, the development team talk about going back to some of the original matte panels that were used as box art for past King’s Quest titles and wanting to capture that feel with their treatment on the King’s Quest brand. The result is a team of designers hand painting cells that are scanned and layered on 3D models, giving the characters and the world a look that is very reminiscent of games like the 2008 Prince of Persia that feel like watercolor paintings that leap off the paper and into a fully realized 3D world.

You can take a look at the trailer below for more information on the processes behind taking hand painted drawings and moving them into a 3D world below. King’s Quest is coming this fall to multiple platforms from The Odd Gentlemen and Sierra, an Activision brand.
